Certification
Since 1995, I have the authorisation of the Higher Regional Court in Hamm and am entitled to issue translations with my endorsement (usually referred to as “certified translations”). My authorisation was extended in 2010 by meeting stringent requirements. Translators in North-Rhine Westphalia (Germany) have to validate their personal and professional aptitude by demonstrating, for instance, an outstanding level of linguistic skills and a sound knowledge of German legal terminology.
Quality Assurance
To ensure that the quality of my translations is consistently high, I regularly undertake further training measures and have attended the following advanced education courses:
- Supplementary graduation course of studies in commercial and labour law at the Fernuni (Open University) of Hagen, including a seminar on the German civil code (BGB).
- Qualification in financial accounting at the adult education centre, VHS Dortmund
- Numerous seminars focusing, e.g., on the translation of sales contracts for real estate, legal texts, contracts, financial statements pursuant to IFRS, as well as on translating journalistic and PR texts, etc.
- Conference of the Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer (BDÜ) – Federal Association of Translators and Interpreters – in Berlin, each lasting several days in 2010 and 2012
